CASE STUDY: TRAINEE
Name: Ayobamidele Fagbemi
Ayo explains how his accounting and finance degree in conjunction with the Moracle Foundation led in him to full time employment.
I got the job of trainee management accountant whilst on a training programme at the Moracle Foundation. After graduation there were no opportunities being offered without physical work experience in the field. At this time I decided to join the work experience training programme at Moracle Foundation in June 2014.
How did you get your current position?
The opportunities begun to flow and I was involved in various projects and assignments which gradually gave me the ability and understanding of working in an accounting firm along with receiving first hand training from an ACCA mentor, Mr Morlai Kargbo. In October 2014 a position opened for a trainee management accountant and through the connections of Moracle Foundation, I was offered the position.
How is it to work in accountancy?
I had been interested in management accountancy throughout my degree and was elated at the opportunity. Now a typical day for me includes a number of activities, such as undertaking and completing the daily bank reconciliation, posting the days payments on the system, making any payments required through the bank, invoicing, weekly payroll, dealing with the company's petty cash and cost-sheet analysis.
How do you find your current position?
I enjoy my job, as I enjoy the challenges and pressure of completing work when I am busy. I relish the opportunity of improving and developing certain abilities and here my role and responsibilities have increased as I have become quicker and more adept at each of the tasks I have to perform.
How did the training with Moracle Foundation help you?
During my time in this position, I have been given the opportunity to study for an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification. It was my mentor who has encouraged this, and I am so thrilled for this opportunity.
"My long-term career aim is to stay with the company and progress as far as possible as they have faith in my abilities and are nurturing my skills. I would not have made it this far without the support of the Moracle Foundation and its entire team."
